Biography: Benjamin List, the Director of the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung (Max Planck Institute for Coal Research, MPIK) and 2021 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, received his Masters degree from Freie Universität Berlin in 1993 and his Ph.D. from Goethe University Frankfurt in 1997. He served as an Assistant Professor at The Scripps Research Institute from 1999 to 2003 and has been a Professor at the MPIK since 2005. Professor Lists pioneering work in asymmetric organocatalysis, green chemistry, precision synthesis, and related fields has significantly advanced the global synthetic chemistry sector. In 2021, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his development of new catalytic methods using small organic molecules.
