Recently, the International Towing Tank Conference (ITTC) officially released the member list of its new Advisory Council (AC) on its website. Wuhan University of Technology (WUT) has been elected to the AC for the first time, marking the university’s major advance in global influence in the field of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering.
The ITTC Advisory Council is the most authoritative academic organization in the global ship hydrodynamics community. It brings together leading institutions and renowned experts in naval architecture and marine engineering worldwide. The Council assumes three core responsibilities: guiding the development direction of the discipline, formulating international technical standards, and determining the structure, tasks, and orientations of the ITTC’s technical committees and specialist groups. It also recommends and appoints committee members, playing a vital role in shaping the advancement of global ship engineering technologies.
Currently, 11 research institutes and universities from China are members of the ITTC, among which five have been elected to the Advisory Council. Being an AC member of ITTC, WUT now stands alongside top domestic research institutes and universities such as the China Ship Scientific Research Center (CSSRC, 702 Institute), the Marine Design and Research Institute of China (MARIC, 708 Institute), the Shanghai Ship and Shipping Research Institute (SSSRI), and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Together, these institutions represent China in international academic exchanges and contribute to strengthening the country’s voice and influence in the global arena of ship hydrodynamics.
