On October 14th, the “Biodiversity” series of events for the 12th Franco-Chinese Month of the Environment was held at Wuhan University of Technology (WUT). Meng Fangbing, Secretary of the CPC WUT Committee, met with Mr. Julien Le Lan, Consul General of France in Wuhan, and jointly inaugurated the event. The opening ceremony was chaired by Vice President Luo Rong. Under the theme “Blue Planet, Green Future”, this year’s Franco-Chinese Month of the Environment aims to deepen consensus on cooperation in environmental issues between China and France and raise public awareness of ecological protection.

During the meeting, Meng Fangbing briefed Mr. Le Lan on the university’s overall development and progress, highlighting recent key achievements and the advancement of its internationalization strategy. Meng expressed gratitude for the strong support from successive Consuls General and science and culture officers of the Consulate General of France in Wuhan. Both sides then exchanged views on further strengthening academic cooperation and communication between WUT and French universities in areas such as materials science, environmental science, ecological protection, and sustainable development.
Consul General Julien Le Lan highly commended the university’s significant achievements in its development. He mentioned that the Consulate General of France in Wuhan would continue to facilitate partnerships between WUT and more high-level institutions in France, encouraging broader and deeper collaboration in disciplines of shared interest, and jointly creating a new chapter in Sino-French educational exchanges. Mr. Le Lan also praised the progress of the WUT-AMU Institute and fully recognized the university’s leadership in cross-cultural environmental education. He expressed his sincere expectation that young Chinese and French students would work together to become pioneers in biodiversity protection.
Vice President Luo Rong stated in her speech that the university consistently incorporates the concept of sustainable development into its talent cultivation and scientific research innovation. In recent years, the university has encouraged academic exchanges and joint research in areas including ecological engineering, environmental science, and green policies. The university firmly believes that young people are the creators of a green future, and that young Chinese and French students can foster mutual understanding through interactions and strengthen their sense of responsibility—embodying the true spirit of the Month of the Environment.

The Biodiversity-themed exhibition of the 12th Franco-Chinese Month of the Environment presented rigorous data and vivid images to illustrate fundamental concepts such as the basic units of life, life cycles, species, and communities. Through the authoritative perspective of the French National Museum of Natural History, the exhibition systematically displayed the fragility and vitality of the Earth’s ecosystems, providing scientific access for the public to understand the symbiotic relationship between humans and nature. It highlighted that biodiversity protection remains central to global sustainable development, and that France continues to regard ecological transition as a top priority in its cooperation with China and other nations worldwide.
Representatives from the Consulate General of France in Wuhan and the Wuhan Agent of Campus France, responsible persons from the university’s International Office, School of Resources and Environmental Engineering, School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Life Science, and the Institute of WUT-AMU, as well as faculty and student representatives, attended the event.
