In the fields of energy materials science and life composite materials science, WUT has achieved original and fruitful results with extensive international influence.
 
The basic theories, key innovative technologies and industrial application achievements in the field of building materials construction have served the implementation of my country's major strategies and plans in various periods. Major breakthroughs have been made in key technologies for the large-scale use of solid waste and domestic waste as alternative raw materials to produce high-performance cement. These advancements have promoted the transformation and upgrading of China’s cement industry. Achievements in key technologies have been widely used in more than 150 major national projects such as large-span bridges, tunnels, high-speed rail, highways and the Three Gorges Dam, etc. and made significant contributions to the development of China’s building materials industry.
 
A number of important innovations have been achieved in the fields of green smart ships, water and land transportation safety, smart transportation and smart shipping, etc. WUT proposed and established the navigation brain system of intelligent ship to promote China’s ship driving active safety technology and equipment innovation. A complete set of technology systems has been formed for using new energy for ships. The manipulator ship frame cold bending machine and digital-controlled plate bender with completely independent intellectual property rights promoted China’s shipbuilding technology to be digital and intelligent. The design and construction of the first direct river-to-sea demonstration ship "Hanhai No. 1" has opened the "thousand boxes era" of the Yangtze River inland shipping.
 
In the preparation theory and technology of fiber grating sensing and smart sensing, industrial production and engineering applications, WUT has solved international technical problems and formed a complete intellectual property system. Scientific and technological achievements have been applied to major basic engineering and equipment fields such as chemical industry, metallurgy, railways, highways, ships, ports on a large scale.
 
In the areas of automobile lightweight, electrification, intelligence, and networking, WUT has broken through a series of core technologies and promoted the transformation and upgrading of the automobile industry. As one of China’s first two fuel cell cars, "Chutian No. 1" participated in the Tiananmen Square parade. Difficulty in high-performance component near-net molding manufacturing technology has also been overcome. The mass production of high-precision core structural parts has been realized in automobiles, high-speed railways, aero engines and widely used in Fortune 500 companies such as China Dongfeng, FAW, Toyota, GM, and CRRC.
